Nescient, Benighted or Just Morons?

WARNING: This is a political post so feel free to skip this tirade.

I spent much of the day in meetings at the University today. Because I am American and the US Presidential Primaries get as much attention here as Britain’s own political process, I am constantly peppered with questions about the US’s ongoing political diatribe. Of course, many of the comments are great jokes about the nature of American politics with many of them assaulting the ignorant voter. It seems that the world is much more educated about our political process and our future leaders than our own citizens.

Generally, I am a staunch defender of American politics. While I dislike the two party system and advocate for the removal of the Electoral College and its primary equivalent of super delegates, there are few other systems that allow for stable dialogue. Today, after continuing in my familiar argument I was shown this video in my professor’s office.

I was beside myself at the ignorance of these people in this video. While I understand it is propaganda, I do get the feeling that the videos are genuine. This is not the first example I have seen and it is becoming harder and harder for me to defend.

Frankly, I am sad for America. The future is not a bright one with the current slate of possible future leaders.

Hillary is the worst candidate the Democratic party could have put forward. She is a divider in her own party and comes with 20 years of being demonized. How can a person that elicits such a combative attitude be good for our country? I will ignore all I dislike about her and simply point to the fact you love her or hate her and that is not good for the US should she become president.

I am very sad as McCain is proving to be a rich man with mediocre ideas who will continue in the vein of rewarding a few at the expense of many. Only 1 in 4 people can stand GW’s policies yet 50% of the country thinks that McCain has different policies? Are the UK newspapers really that different than the news people read in the US? How uncritical can a population be?

Of course, you must think I like Obama and of course I do not care for him any more than I care for Hillary. People want to believe in him to get something fresh and new but sadly the 44th President is destined to fail with an international policy that cannot be changed in 4 years without causing even more mess than GW has caused.

Am I the only one that shares this great frustration with the ruling class in the US? We are supposed to be an educated people in regards to politics and our leaders yet people have no critical analysis skills to see the truth from the falsities. How can United States of America be for the people, of the people when there seems to be a huge percentage of nincompoops in our population?

Simply put, I am proud to be an American but I am sick and tired of defending idiocracy. I will lay my life on the line to allow someone to express an opinion but I draw the line when that opinion comes from prejudice, hate and ignorance. Sadly, the US is going to continue to be the laughing stock of the world as it is easier and easier to see our simpleton citizens splashed in all their illiteracy on the world wide web.

Here ends my time upon my soap box. If you think I have it right or wrong, throw a comment below!
